The "Where's Waldo" Winter

A few truly epic days in McCall. So much fun.

The storm hit out of the blue. We knew it was coming, but in this "Where's Waldo" Winter – a season of hopeful forecasts followed by disappointing results - a bit of a sleeper storm delivered. It came in heavy, so heavy that trying to ski relatively low-angle laps on Sargents Wednesday night was actually no fun. The snow was too deep. As in, JAPOW deep. And, maybe, if I'm nitpicking, a bit heavy.

I thought maybe I was alone in this sentiment, but sliding into the parking lot after an evening Sargents lap, I ran into Jess – a friend and avid backcountry skier.

The first thing out of his mouth – "Awesome snow. Crappy skiing. Surprisingly, it really wasn't that good."

I didn't want to agree, but he was right. I had trouble getting started and staying moving in the thigh-deep snow. I felt bad thinking that, but I just couldn't find terrain steep enough for long enough to rate it an epic day. The video below gives a quick reminder of how the storm moved in, what it looked like the next day and a quick look back at high pressure January.
