Holiday Magic

The summer and fall were a blur. We did some travelling, buried my father-in-law, married off one of my daughters, and sent our last two kids to college—meaning we officially became empty nesters.

The whole process was disjointing. Oftentimes, I felt like I was viewing my life from afar as a spectator. A weird feeling.

But now the snow is beginning to fall, and the holidays are heading our way. Life has settled into a better rhythm. Like many of you, we’re finding ourselves decorating the house, binging Hallmark Christmas movies, and looking forward to our family’s return to the town we all love.

There is no place more magical than McCall in winter. Piles of snow line the street. Gentle flakes drift down from above, landing on outstretched tongues and eyelashes and smiling faces. A huge Christmas tree stands as a silent, colorful sentinel next to the lake, filling the town with wonderful light and hearts with the promise of good things to come.

This feeling—part nostalgia, part hope, part unbridled joy—is what I hope you and your loved ones capture this holiday season. It’s the feeling we’ve tried to illustrate in each of the stories in this issue—starting with the wonderful cover art created by a local artist to celebrate McCall’s love of winter and skiing on through fun stories of camaraderie and joy you can only find in the Liar’s Den. You can read the whole issue here - or pick up a hard copy at one of our newsstands or our advertiser's offices.

So, enjoy those first turns of the season and that time snuggled up with loved ones in front of a warm fire in this special place we call home.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
